A Must Visit to Enjoy the Outdoors in Algoma

Situated west of the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Prince Township is not to be missed when you’re visiting Algoma Country. With a landscape of farmland, rugged Canadian Shield rock, the breathtaking views of the Gros Cap Bluffs and the stunning coastline of Lake Superior, Prince Township should be your must-visit list. Especially if you love the outdoors.

Cycling

If you’re staying in Sault Ste. Marie, bring your bicycle and pedal out to Prince Township. Ride this area’s section of the Lake Huron North Channel Bike Trail, which is a 380-km cycling extension of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail from Sudbury to Gros Cap Marina Park. Cycling along the signed route makes for a great day trip and an excellent way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Gros Cap Marina Park

Beautiful landscaping, wheelchair-accessible paths, a universal dock that allows water tourists with mobility issues to easily transfer to and out of their watercraft, two picnic tables, a compost washroom facility, bear-proof waste disposal containers, and a signage kiosk.

Prince Township is connected to the Lake Superior Waterfront Trail. The 1,000-km Lake Superior Waterfront Trail is an accessible water trail from Gros Cap Marina Park to Fisherman’s Park in Thunder Bay. Explore the Map Here

Voyageur Hiking Trail

The Saulteaux Club maintains the trail systems of the Sault Ste. Marie and Area of the Voyageur Hiking Trail. The Club also organizes local hikes and paddles in the area which you can find on the website.

Airways General Store

Stop at Airways General Store for snacks, beverages or anything else you’ll need for a picnic. The general store also sells gas so no worries when out touring the countryside. The general store is also open in winter and is located on District 13 Snowmobile Trail SSM 1. Sledders can fuel up their snowmobiles.
