Experience Indigenous Culture

Ontario is home to the largest number of Indigenous people in Canada and more remote First Nations than any other part of the country. Indigenous people have lived on this land for thousands of years. In fact, the word "Ontario" comes from the Iroquois word kanadario, meaning sparkling or beautiful water.

The cultures and traditions of these diverse nations are thriving and growing today—from Indigenous cuisine to fashion to cultural tours, pow wows, art galleries, and more, it's never been easier to experience the diversity of Indigenous culture.

Northern Ontario Travel, in partnership with Indigenous Tourism Ontario, is proud to bring you this resource showcasing all the Indigenous experiences the North has to offer.

Indigenous-owned businesses, cultural experiences for travellers, historical sites, arts and culture… you’ll find it all here.
