Voyageurs Play Important Part in Near North History!

The legendary Voyageurs played an integral part in opening up Ontario's Near North. These hardy folk were the masters of the waterways during the fur trade.

A voyageur was an adventurer who journeyed by canoe from Montréal into Canada's interior to trade for furs with Cree, Ojibwas, Chippewa and many other North American native tribes. At the close of the 17th century, the term was applied to select Coureurs de Bois, hired by Montréal merchants to arrange and sustain trading alliances...
