Paddle Auction and Canoe Raffle
Don't miss out on this fantastic event coming soon at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. The artfully crafted paddles are sure to make a splash. Other displays will also include photography, paintings and fine crafts by Northwestern Ontario artists.
Up the Creek Paddle Auction
For one year only, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery will replace the spring Birdhouse Auction with the auction of uniquely designed and originally crafted paddles taking place on Friday, May 27, 2011. Like the assortment of birdhouses and spring related art usually donated, some paddles will be fully functional, and some will be purely decorative. Not all of the art will be paddles. There will be paintings, photography, ceramics, and mixed media pieces related to paddling, nature and spring. This will also be the night we will reveal the one-of-a-kind painted canoe by Roy Morris of Sioux Lookout that will be up for raffle.
Local Artist - Roy Morris
Muskrat Dam’s Roy Morris undoubtedly has both the brush stroke and J-stroke down pat. He is painting images depicting the traditional uses of the canoe on a 12-foot canoe for this event. In addition to the images of two water animals, the beaver and the muskrat, Morris has also painted an image of the loon on the canoe, which was donated by Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Bruce Hyer and Margaret Wanlin, operators of Wildwaters Kayaks & Canoes.
