Temiskaming Drag n' Fly - A Great Reason to Ride

by
Nitro Mike and the Guinness World Records adjudicator Nitro Mike and the Guinness World Records adjudicator

Mike Jacobs , motorcycle touring aficionado and freelance writer for Motorcycle.com recently visited the Temiskaming Drag ‘n Fly, hosted by the Earlton Airport August 12 – 15.

Take a close look at the location of the drag race, and you’ll find that it’s located on one of Ontario’s premiere motorcycle routes: the Lake Temiskaming loop. Events like the Drag n’ Fly are a great reason make the trip to northern Ontario and enjoy the ride alongside boreal forests, lakes, rivers and vistas of rolling farmland.

Mike and crew checked in to Holiday Inn Express and Suites in New Liskeard and were greeted with the warmest hospitality imaginable. Sean Mackey, owner and operator of the hotel is an avid rider and pulls out every stop to ensure the hotel caters to weary travellers.Temiskaming_Drag_and_Fly

Arriving at the Drag ‘n Fly, the crew almost forgot that on any other day they’d be standing in the middle of an airport. Dozens of racers and their rides were lined-up along the drag with high intensity lamps overhead to reveal the perfect paint jobs and their owners who were raring to race.

This year, there was a particularly anxious feel in the air. Nitro Mike was taking a run at the world record for the longest wheel stand, which until this weekend was 137 metres. After a day of rain, the Guinness World Record adjudicator gave Nitro Mike the green light to make his attempt. Mike gunned his 440 Magnum engine and the front end lifted up for a whopping 763.4 meters, which was 5 times the previous record!
