Port Loring ~ Vacation Destination
Port Loring/Loring Vacation Destination
Summer or autumn vacation time is the perfect time to visit vibrant picturesque Port Loring....
There are a variety of great places to stay in this lovely region each offering different and unique services.
Spend a week at Pine Grove Resort Cottages on the shores of the pristine Pickerel River. When you arrive, you will enter 200+ acres of forested, peaceful, private land, in which to relax, unwind and enjoy your vacation.
There are several fully equipped housekeeping cottages, a chalet and a farmhouse to choose from depending on how many in your party. The resort is pet friendly and even has a place for dogs to play and exercise. The resort is only ten minutes west of the community of Port Loring.
If you are going on a canoeing or boating excursion, another great place to stay is at White Birches Camp, situated on a beautiful peninsula between Wilson Lake and Pigeon Lake, one of a chain of three beautiful lakes on the Pickerel River System. The camp offers electrically heated housekeeping cottages, park model trailers, camping cabins, RV and tent sites, group camping and outpost cottages. There are well maintained boats, motors and docks, great fishing on local and inland lakes, a laundromat, sauna, recreation room, children's playground, beaches, secluded picnic areas & forest trails.
Tornados Canadian Resorts is a scrumptious place to dine and stay a week or two. The resort includes such amenities as a fully licensed dining room, fishing and fly-in fishing services, lodges, motel, cottages and outposts and scenic flights. Tornado's Air Services offers sightseeing flights in their famous deHavilland Beaver float plane.
Of course the most popular summer sport at Tornado's is fishing! Many possibilities exist for your angling adventures. At the Main Lodge, you can travel the 40 mile Pickerel River waterway in pursuit of walleye (pickerel), northern pike, and small and largemouth bass.
In an area known for its excellent fishing and canoeing opportunities, it is not surprising that many canoeists do some fishing along the way. In co-operation with Rainbow Airways, Tornado's offers a unique canoeing adventure from Smoky Lake Lodge to Island Lake Lodge (or in reverse). En route, an overnight stay at John Lake provides an opportunity to do some fishing and exploring. The route is neither long nor arduous, so plenty of time can be devoted to seldom-fished lakes along the way. At either end of the canoe trip, a welcoming lodge, a shower and a home-cooked meal can be enjoyed before and after the canoe trip itself.
You may wish to stay at Northern Lights Resort in nearby Loring where you can relax in a clean housekeeping cottage, take in a massage at The Spa and enjoy a spectacular sunrise or sunset.
During your stay in Port Loring visit the Argyle Farmer's Market on Wilson Lake Road, past Government Dock, held every Wednesday from 9 am to 1 pm from the end of June to the end of August. Enjoy great food at Jake's Place, a popular dining and entertainment establishment.
If you are an autumn bear hunter see Hermann and Lise at the Loring Ontario Bear Outfitters. They can provide you with all you need for a great bear hunt. You will enjoy the lovely fall colors at this time.
Both Port Loring and Loring offer all you need to enjoy a relaxing, enjoyable vacation, so plan to visit and you will find there are indeed adventures to be had in this wonderful picturesque region.
