CNN Travel: "Stokely Creek Is One Of Five Great Places To Cross Country Ski In North America"

The perfect mix of snow and terrian turned a dream into a reality...

Just a few km North of Sault Ste Marie, amid the Algoma Highlands, you will find Stokely Creek Lodge. Stokely is the result of a dream. Its founder scoured the Highlands region over forty years ago in search of the perfect mix of snow and terrain to pursue the sport he loved, cross-country skiing. He developed the trails and build a ski resort. A few years ago, long time guests of Stokely bought the resort so it would continue for their grandchildren and the next generations of cross country enthusiasts. Their dedication to making Stokely a great place to ski paid off; CNN travel says Stokely is one of five great places to cross country ski in North America. Guests return year after year for its extensive trail system, comfortable Scandinavian ambiance, the great homemade food and the camaraderie among the guests. You may leave Stokely tired from you great time on the trails, but you will never leave hungry. The staff is welcoming and friendly and are invested in making your stay enjoyable.

Stokely Creek

In the last couple years, Stokely has kept up with the trend of the fastest growing winter sport, snowshoeing. Trail developers, Bob and Lucie, say they developed the snowshoe trails to follow the natural flow of the land. The trails are situated to catch the highlights so snowshoers can discover frozen waterfalls, giant trees, spectacular rocks cliffs or long vistas from mountaintops. The most talked about trail is the one that goes to the top of King Mountain.

Stokely Creek

The 100km of Stokely's extensive ski trails system is dotted with six remote, undeveloped lakes. There are five warming huts along the way. Stokely's trails are well marked and frequently groomed for classic and skate skiing.

Stokley Creek Lodge

Stokely has several events that attract guest from the Sault Ste Marie area. Every January we host a Snowshoe Fest, and in February a hut-to-hut ski and snowshoe event. In March we run our well attended Wabo Loppet where skiers take the train from the Sault and get off at Wabos and ski back to Stokely. We have many local guest who come just for a ski and special occasion dinner, with some even staying for an weekend get-away.

Stokely Creek Room

Stokely is also the place for your destination weddings. Its natural beauty, including the Stokely Creek and waterfalls makes this unique setting a perfect place for your special day.
