Andrew Evans of National Geographic Goes Fishing in the North
Weekend in the Wild By National Geographic's Andrew Evans
Flying north out of Atikokan, Ontario, Andrew Evans took a weekend trip to Tip Top Wilderness Lodge. While flying the half-hour trip, he was amazed by the number of lakes in Ontario. Looking out the window seeing all the lakes and forest, he was reminded of the fact that Canada is wild. Shortly after landing in the wilderness Andrew caught his first Canadian fish, a walleye of course! Heading back to camp on the calm water with the sunset reflecting on it, Andrew was rewarded with his first listen to the call of the loon.
Day two Andrew headed out for a full day out on the lake. While he was exicted to go out fishing, he was even more thrilled to be out on the water. For him, the lakes define Ontario. After having a unsuccessful attempt at fishing in the morning, Andrew welcomed the stop for a shore lunch. "Delicious" described his lunch that was literally caught 20 minutes before. After lunch along the shore of Sanford Lake, he headed back out to figure out that fishing is about patience and persistence. After enjoying watching everyone else catch fish all afternoon, Andrew was finally rewarded with fish after fish. Watching the video, you'll see that he could not wipe the smile off his face. Heading back to the lodge for a second night, Andrew felt overwhelmed at the peace of the area and at how truly relaxed he felt.
