While Sunset Country in Northwestern Ontario is best known for its awesome outdoor travel experiences, did you know there is a very active arts, music and cultural scene in the region? Here is a summary of what you can see and do if you want to experience the finer side of life.
Music Scene
The regional music scene is very active and ranges across all genres including rock, folk music, jazz and country. If you love to go to outdoor music festivals then you should check out Trout Fest in Ear Falls or Harbourfest in Kenora. These are the two big summer musical events - one you don't want to miss! However you can also enjoy great musical performances throughout the year in many Sunset Country communities. Check out the tour-de-fort concert series in Fort Frances or the performances put on by the folks who run the Dryden Entertainment Series. Whatever community you are visiting, make sure to check the local papers as it is likely a music event is going on somewhere.
Theatre and the Arts
Northwestern Ontario has a tremendous talent base when it comes to theatre and the Arts. Trylight Theatre Company in Kenora is known for its quality productions so if you are visiting town, check to see if they have a play on. There are also many arts and cultural groups such as the Dryden Cultural Partnership, the Rogue Apples Comedy Troupe and the Lake of the Woods Art Collective.
