Kick It Up A Notch With A Night Out at The Foundry

The Foundry offers an Irish Pub atmosphere with a blend of great food and live entertainment usually on weekends and is a spot you will want to check out on your visit to Thunder Bay.

“The food was terrible,” says Dane Newbold, owner of The Foundry, referring to pubs he and his father Ken frequented in Ireland to get the idea for their Thunder Bay establishment. Together they built The Foundry around the Irish pub look and mentality going to great expense to get it right, but avoiding the terrible British food fair. 

Painstaking detail was put into picking out the Oak that Tom Logan, a skilled Irish carpenter needed to build the rich interior. Logan came up from Kitchener and did hard labour for three months to surpass expectations with the creation of quality pub décor.

The Foundry is one of the recent culinary additions in the Waterfront District with a worthy selection of pub fair on their Gastropub menu that is routinely updated. You can’t go wrong with the choices. For salads, try the offerings of blueberry goat cheese, blackened chicken Caesar, Athenian grilled pork souvlaki, Jack Daniels smoked salmon, sirloin beet and blue cheese, and more. And of course, they offer the standard food fair and a variety of locally brewed and imported beer.

The Foundry is open for lunch Wednesday to Friday, and for dinner, every other day except Sunday from 4pm. The locals have fallen in love with the place, so be prepared for lots of noise at peak times for lunch and dinner. 

In the evenings, expect crowds and don’t be surprised if you’re treated to local and touring Canadian bands. Weekends are certain to provide an entertaining nightout.
