With more and more trails being built and connected, Northern Ontario is fast becoming a hotspot for cycling. Whether your speed is more mountain biking and fat biking, long-distance adventures, fast-paced races, or simply a leisurely ride through one of our major cities or picturesque small communities, the North has your cycling needs covered. 

Below, you'll find a list of the premier cycling events in Northern Ontario. Some of the event details have not yet been announced, so bookmark this page and check in for updates.

MAY

Thunder Bay Mini Go Ride

Thunder Bay
May 25, 2019

This scenic, non-competitive ride has 10-, 20-, and 50-km routes; the low-cost tickets benefit the Thunder Bay chapter of Bicycles for Humanity.

JUNE

Manitoulin Passage Ride 

Manitoulin Island
June 1 – 2, 2019

With three route options (short, medium, and long) each day, this is an ideal getaway whatever your riding ambitions.
Cost: $ 120.00 (Includes ferry for you and your cycle, ride insurance, Saturday night dinner with live entertainment, Sunday lunch, two-day full ride and mechanical support, support stations with light snacks.

West Nipissing Cycle for Charity

West Nipissing, Voyageur Cycling Route
June 2, 2019

This event offers three ride options at 25 km, 50 km and 100 km depending on skill and endurance levels. On-site bike mechanics from Cycle Works will provide support. In addition, you’ll be treated to a demonstration of specialized e-bikes.
Cost: $40 ($10 for children accompanying a registered parent to cover the cost of the lunch). Entry fee covers registration, water, and lunch. Register before May 15, 2019 to receive a free gift. Proceeds go to Bikes For Kids. This project, in conjunction with the West Nipissing Commmunity Health Centre, will give bikes, helmets, and locks to children in need.

Alvar Cycle Tour Adventure 

Manitoulin Island 
June 17-21 & 24-28, 2019

This all-inclusive five-day tour will take you all over Manitoulin Island to see sights such as waterfalls, beaches, Ojibwe Pow Wow grounds, art galleries, and much more!
Cost: $1,429.45 including HST for single occupancy or $1,186.50 including HST for double occupancy, including four nights’ stay in Lakeside Lodge & Cottages for four (double occupancy with shared bath), four breakfasts, lunches and dinners (alcohol excluded), 10% meal gratuity, Manitoulin lsland and La Cloche Mountains Cycling Routes and Road Map, Museum Fees, luggage shuttle, ferry passage for you and your bicycle to and from Manitoulin Island (automobile excluded), free parking in Tobermory or South Baymouth (for guests arriving by automobile), and pick-up, if you experience mechanical failure. JULY

Ionic Mountain Bike Tour - Sudbury Fitness Challenge

July 21, 2019

With races for women, men, children, and corporate teams, as well as recreational and advanced levels, this event has something for everyone.
Cost: Advance tickets (before July 20) are $25 for adults, $10 for kids, and $60 for a family special (two adults and unlimited kids). Day-of tickets are $30, $15 and $75 respectively.

The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure
– "Cycle the North"

Sault Ste. Marie to Sudbury – Great Lakes Waterfront Trail
July 28 – August 2, 2019

This epic five-day event is an amazing way to experience the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, with daily distances of 65 -107 km. Riders will be transported from Barrie, ON to Sault Ste. Marie and back after the race.
Cost: $1,167.29 including HST before Feb. 25, and $1,223.79 including HST before June 30. Fee includes all breakfasts, four dinners, and two lunches, snacks at the finish line, three nights’ camping (own tent) and two nights in hotels, printed itinerary, parking in Barrie during the race, luggage transfer, support vehicles for riders who do not wish to cycle the full distance, a team of experienced volunteer cyclists to provide on-route first aid, basic bike repair, help with navigation, and good cheer, and a Commemorative Finishers Medal.

AUGUST

Thunder Grinder (Gravel Ride)

Crank The Shield

Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma Country
August 16-18, 2019

This three-day ride is held in beautiful Algoma Country. You’ll ride the famous Agawa Tour Train to the starting point in the wilderness, and celebrate the race with an afterparty at Sault Ste. Marie’s famous Bushplane Museum.
Cost: $739 plus tax, including all meals, Agawa Canyon Tour Train ticket, luggage transportation, event swag, and free parking. For an extra $175, the VIP package includes accommodations. There are also some cost-cutting options; see the site for details.
