Tourists and honeymooners are all familiar with the famous Niagara Falls. However, few realize that below the falls the river provides some of the best steelhead, brown trout and lake trout fishing to be had in the Great Lakes.

Paul Castellano who owns Cast Adventures Guide Service has been taking people on the river for nearly 15 years. Whether you are a fly fisher, or conventional tackle angler, Paul can put you onto some of the best and biggest fish of your life. Using his large fishing boat fully equipped for safety, he will take you out onto the powerful Niagara River to angle for big fish. How big? He gets his customers into some truly massive lake trout and steelhead, many tipping the scales at over 20 pounds. That is incredibly exciting on a eight weight rod!

Paul also guides in the summer for big smallmouth bass on Lake Erie. These are both boat and wading trips. Best of all, most of this type of bass angling is sight fishing! The smallmouth can be quite big with lots of 5, 6, 7 and even 8 pound fish caught every season!

The gear you will need is dependent on the species you seek. Most anglers use 8 or 9 weight rods to fish for the steelhead, brown and lake trout. For the bass, most use fast-action 6 or 7 weight rods. The flies you will use are provided by Paul based on his extensive knowledge of the food forage and the time of year. Paul is probably one of the best and nicest guides I have ever fished with. He is great with husband and wife teams and really wonderful with kids. If you really want a trip of a lifetime and don’t wish to travel far, then give Paul a call or email him. You will not be disappointed!
