The Ontario Experience at Waterfalls Lodge

Experience excellent fishing, ATV Fishing Adventures, homecooked meals, and relaxing waterfalls

Waterfalls Lodge is tucked away just off the King’s Highway 17 in the middle of Algoma Country. The “drive-to” lodge is operated by Rob and Kathy Murphy, and their motto is: “Where you come as a guest and leave as a friend.” After meeting them, I can absolutely confirm this!

The main lodge and cottages provide lakeside scenery that’s tough to beat. The cottages are very roomy, very clean, and have everything you need for your stay. It’s a family-friendly destination for sure. They have kayaks, canoes, a white sand beach, a sauna, and a concrete launch ramp if you decide to bring your boat. The log cabin that over looks the falls is quite unique. The sounds of the waterfalls are relaxing as you drift off to sleep and dream about the next day’s fishing.

The two waterfalls on the property actually used to run an old sawmill. The original wheel can be seen at the base of the falls as it flows into Denvic Lake. Right before we left, I caught a big smallmouth there. We had an excellent time on Denvic, catching a lot of big smallmouth. All of the boats are rigged and ready for fishing, complete with big casting platforms, lots of storage, quiet 4-stroke motors, and a live well. They also are equipped with sonar, an anchor, paddles, and life jackets. I would suggest getting one that has a trolling motor if you’re bass fishing.

For breakfast and dinner, they offer delicious home-cooked meals, including a steak night each week. Rob cooks each steak, making sure each one is prepared perfectly. He estimates he has grilled over 6,000 steaks! Witnessing his skills on the grills, he is a master.

The ATV adventure to fish one of their remote lakes is a must! It’s like a three-course meal. The ride to the lake on old logging trails is an appetizer, fishing a quiet lake full of biting pike and bass is the main course, and the ride back afterward is the dessert. Day trips include guided fishing, lunch, bait, and of course, the ATV ride. If you like to ride ATVs without the fishing, they offer two-, four-, and eight-hour loops on their marked trails.

The Catch and Release Program at Waterfalls Lodge has really helped grow the quality of fishing. Any pike over 30 inches, smallmouth over 18 inches, and walleye over 25 inches qualify. Just take a photo of your catch next to a ruler and send it to Rob. You’ll get a free Waterfalls Lodge Catch and Release shirt and be entered into a drawing to win a free seven-night stay the following year! I did end up catching a number of smallmouth over 18 inches, which got me qualified.

After spending a few wonderful days there, we barely scratched the surface of everything you can experience. Looking forward to making it back. Waterfalls Lodge, “where you come as a guest and leave as a friend.”
