Family-Friendly Fishing Tournaments

Fish for fun and prizes this summer in Timmins & Gogama!

If you haven't already discovered Northeastern Ontario yet, you just might want to give it some thought for the month of July. With two family fishing events and one kids' fishing event being held in July, this is a great opportunity to take in some of the best fishing anywhere while building memories at the same time with your family.

The show doesn't start when you get here, but begins on the way. It's not uncommon to see moose, bears, and other wildlife along the way, so make sure to have your cameras ready.

Gogama Family Fishing Tournament
July 6

The first Family Fishing Tournament is  brought to you by Albert's Sports and Work Wear LTD and the Gogama Fire Rescue that will be held on July 6, 2019 on beautiful Minisinakwa Lake in Gogama.

This Family Tournament should be a huge hit with families, as you can have as many anglers in your boat as desired, as long as you don't surpass your boat's marine maximum capacities plate.

Anglers will be able to weigh in four of their best walleye, pike, and smallmouth bass for the day. This in turns allows your family up to 12 chances to win per boat!

After the awards, families can enjoy dancing the night away to wrap up the day. For more information and registration detials, visit the Facebook page. Families who require accomodations please visit J&L Lakeview Retreat or the Gogama Lodge.

If you haven't experienced a small town atmosphere where the corner store is also the post office and beer/liquor store, and there's an amazing fishery right in town, you just might want to schedule this in for a weekend, or a week, for your vacation this year.

Lund Angler Young Angler Tournament
JUly 13

The second family fishing event is the Lund Angler, Young Angler Tournament held by Guiho Saw Sales & Marine in Timmins, held at the Cache Campground on beautiful Kenogamissi Lake July 13, 2019.

The Lund Angler, Young Angler Tournaments started in 1998 to offer young anglers an opportunity to fish in competitive-style tournament, and to help educate them in competitive sport fishing in a friendly, fun environment surrounded by family and friends.

Each team consist of one angler 18 years of age or older and two young anglers 17 and younger.

After a fun day of fishing, young anglers will have the opportunity of experiencing an official weigh-in when they carry their catch of the day to be weighed. While waiting for the final results of the day, anglers and young anglers will be treated to some pizza courtesy of Topper’s Pizza. The best part: no child will leave the event without a prize!

Over the years I have had the privilege of volunteering at this tournament. After each one I thought it couldn't get any better, only to say that again the following year. For more information, check out the event website. For details about camp sites or cabins, follow this link.

So come join us this July in Northeastern Ontario! Wake up to the birds singing, the call of the loons, the slap of a beaver's tail on the water, and the eagles soaring beneath the clear blue skies. And maybe, just maybe, a moose or bear coming down for a drink while you fish one or more of these family fishing events in Northeastern Ontario this summer.
