Family Day Weekend for Last Minute Planners

Events taking place in Killarney, Timmins, Cochrane, North Bay, and more places across Northeastern Ontario!

The Family Day long weekend in February can no longer be truly considered “new” in Ontario and people are really starting to appreciate the opportunities a long weekend in the middle of a long winter can bring. From stargazing nights to license-free fishing events, winter carnivals and live music, here’s a roundup of what’s going on in Northeastern Ontario this Family Day Weekend.

We love our big, beautiful, and wild region! Northeastern Ontario takes in Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay, Cochrane, Temiskaming Shores, Manitoulin Island, Mattawa,, Moosonee, and more. Friends & Family Ice Fishing Day at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area

February 17, 2011
12 pm to 4 pm

Join Conservation Sudbury for their annual Friends & Family Ice Fishing Day (2309 South Bay Road)! Those new to fishing, or those of you just wanting to get out for the day can do so license-free as the event coincides with Ontario Family Fishing Weekend. Learn to catch a release, make your own ice fishing rod from a stick, and get acquainted with bait and tackle—all provided free of charge via event sponsors. All ages are welcome! Killarney Park Winter Weekend

February 16 - 17, 2019

This annual weekend is packed full of things to do in the park, and this year’s Winter Weekend is no exception! Experience the beauty of Killarney Provincial Park during the coolest months, while participating in stargazing, guided snowshoe hikes, plein air painting, and guest speaker Will Kershaw for a history of Killarney Provincial Park. Enjoy a complimentary BBQ lunch on Sunday at the Nature Centure. Come for the day, or book local accommodations at the Sportsman’s Inn and make it a weekend!

Snowarama for Easter Seals Kids is an annual event taking place across the province all with the goal of raising money for a great cause. Come out and enjoy a fun-filled day during Family Day weekend with a complimentary lunch courtsey of Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa.

Kirkland Lake Winter Carnival

February 15 - March 3, 2019

This carnival is a testament to the Northern Ontario lifestyle and spans two weeks, bringing a plethora of things to do for locals and visitors alike! In the heart of prime snowmobiling country, if you’re sledding the area this Family Day Weekend this festival is worth stopping in for. You can look forward to scheduled events such as the 3 on 3 hockey tournament, a Snowmobile Poker Run, curling bonspiel, snow sculpture contest, and the local ice fishing derby with a total prizes of—wait for it—$50,000.

Family Day at Antoine Mountain

February 16 - 18, 2018

Celebrating a day spent on the slopes at Antoine Mountain in the Après Café.

For all you downhill lovers out there, there’s a ton going on at Antoine Mountain this weekend, Mattawa’s very own ski hill and home to Ontario’s longest run. On Saturday, it’s Tour the Terrain and then finishes with a live performance by DJ Shim. Sunday brings more live music, and a Gear Heads Demo Day. Open on Monday as well for Family Day, that’s three full days of weekend riding!
