Northeastern Ontario Golf Guide

Golfing is not only a great sport, but the laid-back atmosphere creates a great environment to enjoy the beauty and wildlife that our region is known for.

Northeastern Ontario golf courses provide some of the most relaxing and enjoyable ways for locals and tourists to enjoy all that our region has to offer. From open courses with wide fairways, to much more technical layouts with narrow, tree-lined holes scattered with hazards, Northeastern Ontario has something that all levels of golfers will enjoy.

The northeast has so many incredible courses that we weren't able to include them all, but for more information take a look at the golf section of our website! The following are a few of our favourite courses across the region.

Greater sudbury area

Timberwolf Golf Club

Timberwolf Golf Club is one of the most recognized golf courses in the North for good reason, as it was designed by Thomas McBroom, a world-renowned golf course architect. Timberwolf has been the site of many provincial and national tournaments, including the Junior National Championships and the Canadian PGA senior’s Championship. This course spans approximately three times the size of any other course in Sudbury and does a fantastic job of showing you the wilderness of our region while allowing you to play one of the best courses in Ontario.

Cedar Green Golf Course

Cedar Green Golf Course offers a great mix of holes with wide-open fairways, and holes scattered with water hazards and intimidating but beautiful tree-lined fairways. This course will present a challenge to all levels of golfers but promises a great day—because we all know how hard it is to have a bad time taking in the scenery of the North.

Lively Golf & Country Club

Sitting just 15 minutes outside of Sudbury, the Lively Golf & Country Club promises a memorable round to all levels of golfers. This course has a great layout and is consistently maintained to high standards. The facilities include a great clubhouse capable of hosting a wide range of events.

Forest Ridge Golf Course

Just outside of the city sits this challenging and rewarding golf course. Golf courses have always been difficult to design in Sudbury, with its rough and rocky terrain combined with marshy lowlands, but Forest Ridge managed to do it perfectly in a way that will test golfers of all levels. This establishment also offers facilities to host events, weddings, and is always open to booking tournaments.

north bay & mattawa area

Mattawa Golf & Ski Resort

This multi-use resort has year-round activities including golf, skiing, snowboarding, and ATVing. The resort also offers four two-bedroom cottages and one large four-bedroom cottage, all featuring full kitchens. Bathrooms, fireplaces, and all amenities to ensure you have a comfortable stay. This welcoming nine-hole golf course presents spacious fairways lined with water hazards, bunkers, and lush greens.

Osprey Links Golf Course

Just 10 minutes south of North Bay in Callander sits the gorgeous Osprey Links Golf Course. There is a big difference between the front nine and the back nine at this course. The front nine features lots of water and a more wide-open layout, while the back nine is carved out of a thick forest with tree-lined fairways, so both present very different challenges.

North Bay Golf and Country Club

This private club was designed by Canadian golf architect Stanley Thompson, and he did a great job of creating 18 unique holes. Water comes into play on at least 13 holes, and since the course was built on old farmland, it features a layout that promotes the long ball.

Northshore and manitoulin island

Rainbow Ridge Golf Course

This centrally located golf course is a great meeting spot for friends and family staying on different parts of the island. Lots of water and hazards come into play on this course, but immaculate fairways make it worth the risk. Rainbow Ridge also offers full practise facilities, an indoor academy, and everything you would need to host all sorts of events.

Kirkland Lake Golf Club

One of the regions finest golf courses offers top-notch facilities including a driving range, clubhouse, kitchen, and a pro-shop with rentals. The Kirkland Lake Golf Club hosts a lot of events and tournaments throughout the year, so there is something for everyone to participate in.

Timmins area

Hollinger Golf Club

Established in 1922, this course was originally built to encourage people to come and work at the Hollinger Mine, but it has really transformed into a championship-level course. Full practice facilities, a great restaurant, and a beautiful patio help make this a great location for tournaments and events.

Black River Golf & Country Club

This friendly nine-hole golf course located in Matheson is a great public course and a perfect fit for all levels of players. With tournaments consistently spread out across the summer, there is always something happening on the weekends at Black River Golf & Country Club.
