Climb above it all

Ontario offers incredible ice-climbing adventures

Whether you are a novice or expert, there are lots of places to climb

The north shore along Lake Superior offers the ultimate in ice-climbing adventures. Dozens of ice-clad routes reach heights of over 90 m (300 ft.) and the waterfalls freeze so thick that the ice can stay until June.

Ice Climbing (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Levels)

Superior Exploration courses offer various levels of instruction. We start with the basics of ice climbing with a review of gear and techniques inside before heading out to ice climb in a top rope setting. Move on to rigging for a top-rope climbing set up as well as rappelling. Continue on to pick up the concepts and skills required to "second" a single or multi-pitch ice climb. With the advanced course, you will have gained the skills, concepts and experience necessary to lead a single or multi-pitch ice climb up to grade 3 in difficulty.
