best dog friendly vacation spots

Go pampered or "ruffstic"

Did you know that many lodges and Ontario Parks welcome pets? Find out our top picks.

We get so many great questions from Ontario travelers, and one in particular has just kept coming up: “Where are the best places in Ontario to take your pet on vacation with you?” Here are just a few of our top picks.

The Lodge is located on a secluded island on Nym Lake on the border of Quetico Provincial Park. It offers a perfect wilderness eco-adventure for your whole family.

You and your pups will enjoy a fun and relaxing vacation on this 84 acre playground on Otter Lake, near Parry Sound. Stay in very clean and well-maintained dog-friendly cottages.

The motto at Woodhaven Country Lodge says it all: “If your dogs sleep on your bed at home then they can sleep on your bed at Woodhaven”.  You and your dog can enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities.

For dogs that can’t be off-leach in an open environment, the Guest House now features a fully enclosed 110’ long x 50’ wide run.

Woodhaven has been operating since 1993 and there’s plenty for pets and their families to enjoy on the beautiful lake, including walks through the woods, swims in the lake in summer, skating and snowshoeing in the winter and much more.

This actively pet friendly resort is ideal for you and your four legged family members.  All of the cottages are pet-friendly and there are NO EXTRA FEES. All sizes of dogs will enjoy the designated off leash dog park and 6 km of off-leash trail.

Dogs are welcome at Deerhurst Resort, where new pet friendly accommodations mean that you can bring the whole family on vacation. Deerhurst also has designated areas for pets to enjoy the outdoors along with you. Enjoy paddling in nearby Algonquin Park.

There are lots of pet-friendly hotels and resorts in Gananoque, Ontario.

Nature’s Harmony

Situated on 485 acres overlooking the Laurentian Mountains, Nature’s Harmony has unique accommodations and lots of space for you and your dog to play in any season.

With extensive trails for hiking, biking, kicksledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, you will connect with nature and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Dogs love the fresh air just as much as we do and in light of this many Ontario Parks allow dogs to join the camping fun. Twelve parks now offer special pet exercise areas and beaches.

Other favourite parks includes Killbear, Bon Echo, Mikisew and Restoule. Click here for more information.
