angling for Muskie & hunting for Whitetail

Fishing fun for all ages

If you're looking to reel in some massive muskie this fall then Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls is the place to be. Fall muskie season runs from October to November and Crawford's Camp in Whitefish Bay offers both guided and unguided trips for anglers of any skill level. The annual Whitetail Deer hunt is also a draw every autumn. Finding an outfitter to meet your angling and hunting needs is easy and there are dozens of options to fit every visitor's needs.

The region is also home to the Northern Ontario Sportfishing Centre, one of the only attractions in North America dedicated to the sport of angling. The centre celebrates the history of fishing in Northern Ontario through catchy exhibits featuring antique equipment and local lore. Each year, new programs inspire avid and novice anglers alike on everything there is to know about the sport today through engaging learn-to-fish workshops, hands-on classes and presentations.

Family-friendly Lodges and resorts

Local resorts provide excellent service, cozy accommodations and a variety of activities to suit every group and budget.

Exploring our beaches and signature clear shallow water is the perfect way to spend your fall vacation

Kick back in comfortable housekeeping cabins and cottages at Hanson’s Hideaway Lodge, Indian Head Lodge or Laughing Water Lodge. Tinker’s Places offers the choice of full or modified American Plan style accommodation at the main lodge or remote wilderness retreats accessible by float plane. Muskie Bay Resort keeps it flexible from motel rooms to deluxe American Plan options. Or opt for a houseboating adventure with Tomahawk Resort and enjoy the freedom to anchor at the best fishing spots or next to pristine beaches.

Parks, Paddling, and Trail Hiking

Autumn is the best time to enjoy the many amazing hiking trails maintained by the Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls. Admire the brilliant fall colours and local wildlife along the easy 2.6 mile Aspen Trail loop. The 2.2 mile Red Pine Trail is also suitable for all skill levels, and leads you through gorgeous pine forests. There’s a variety of terrain along the Boreal Trail, which is a little more challenging for the 3.8 mile distance. No matter what trail you choose, your family will enjoy colourful views and fresh air–and a day they won’t forget.

A fall hike in Northwestern Ontario is an unforgettable experience

In partnership with the city of Kenora, Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls has developed six new multi-day regional canoe route guides that include portages, campsites and detailed maps. Ask about them at the Visitor Information Centre.

The two local provincial parks are definite musts. Look out for American White Pelicans at Caliper Lake Provincial Park. The clear waters here also make for great fishing, while the beach is a great place to relax and enjoy a fall picnic–just remember to bundle up. Sioux Narrows Provincial Park, on the shores of Lake of the Woods, is famed for walleye fishing.

Arts, culture, and small town hospitality

While many flock to Sioux Narrows for its proximity to Lake of the Woods and all the outdoor fun promised there, there’s also loads to do right downtown in this vibrant, artist’s haven. From live music at the Lazy Loon Restaurant to the town’s free little libraries and Book Trading Post (hand carved by a local artist), a love of the arts is evident everywhere in the community. The Bridge and Falls Creative Residency is also popular with visiting artists–who wouldn’t want a chance to live in a light-filled studio and be inspired by the vast Ontario landscapes.
