Snowmobiling on Ontario Snowmobile Trails in Eastern Ontario
In OFSC District 1, there are new things that you can do everyday---but you always wait until “next time”--- well---maybe today is the best time for you to “just go for it”. Come and ride Eastern Ontario. Each Signature Loop in District One Snowmobile Association, located in Eastern Ontario, offers snowmobilers the opportunity to capture a favorite piece of our diverse region while visiting this pretty part of Ontario. Our Trillium Trail, one of three possible Signature Loops, is 650 km (404 mile) designed for those who wish to spend a few days immersed in a world where snowmobiles rule.
Your starting point for snowmobiler friendly accommodations can be found in Morrisburg at the McIntosh Country Inn just south of highway 401 located on TOP E105. The community of Morrisburg also offers restaurants, service stations, automotive garages, a pharmacy and a Ski-Doo dealer all located right on Top E105.
This five day loop will take you through woodlots and open fields as you travel east on TOP E105 and A104 towards the town of Alexandria. Make sure to bring your sun glasses as you ride east into a sunny day of full enjoyment. The town of Alexandria can be your first stop for trail side amenities of food, fuel and sled dealers for Arctic Cat, Polaris and Ski-Doo located all on TOP A trail. As you head northeast on Top A from Alexandria, you will turn onto an abandoned rail bed trail which will lead you west to the town of Hammond and an over night stay at a quaint B & B with the warmth of a log cabin atmosphere, Domaine Chez Phillias, a snowmobilers haven located right on TOP A. This first day ride will give you the chance to see many of Ontario’s wildlife in the winter months from White Tail Deer to moose along with our local coyotes and foxes, so please drive with care and have your camera ready.
Your next day's travel will send you west on TOP A to the town of Metcalfe for fuel, food or service at the Arctic Cat dealer, all located on the trail with signage in place to find your needs. Stop if you need to. Continue west on TOP A towards the village of Carleton Place for another fuel and food location before heading to the town of Arnprior. Through-out you’re sledding experience of the day, you will come across a variety of forested trails and open farm land with some un-opened road allowances and rail bed trails all smoothly groomed, signed and safe. You can have a quick break at the Local Tim Hortons or the Prior Restaurant, both located where your can ride right up to the door or you can get your sled serviced at the trail side Yamaha\Arctic Cat dealer since you are only 40 km from your third night stay. Once you leav e and continue west on TOP A it is a short ride to Renfrew where you will now turn south on TOP E105A towards Calabogie for accommodations. All 40km of groomed trail from Arnprior to Calabogie are on abandoned rail bed. The village of Calabogie offers many possibilities for accommodations along with service stations, grocery stores and restaurants. Choices are motels with efficiency units like Jocko’s Beach Resort, Calabogie Highlands Resort and The Fans of Calabogie, all within a short distance to local restaurants.
Calabogie is the jewel of Eastern Ontario for trails through enchanting landscapes of snow covered forest and rolling hills and we recommend spending an extra day exploring the scenery and groomed trails the area has to offer. Day five will take you south on TOP E towards Sharbot Lake which offers fuel and food. You will continue your ride on this abandoned rail bed trail travelling east to Perth that has the amenities that you may need along with a Ski-doo dealer for service. With a rail line trail from Calabogie to Perth, your pace has picked up, but take the time for scenic photo stops and breathe the fresh air that the County of Lanark and Renfrew has to offer and is home to some of the greatest snowmobile trails in Ontario.
Stay on TOP E and travel towards Smiths Falls, another town with fuel, food and accommodations and from there you can go cross country a short distance on club trails which are groomed and signed for tourist riders to connect with TOP trail A104 which will bring you back to Morrisburg for your final night.
