Snowmobiling Clubs? What’s happening this summer?

After a couple of seriously epic snowmobiling seasons, where we saw some of the most consistent snow conditions in over a decade produce endless riding opportunities, snowmobilers across Ontario were faced with a less-than-amazing winter 2015/16. And now, in the heat of summer, it can be hard to remember, but winter is coming.

By now we've all spent a few hours in the garage performing the end of season service, normally we dread this day, however, I have a feeling many snowmobilers performed this task while grinning with satisfaction, remembering clear days on ivory trails with friends and family.

Our experiences from those winters surely wouldn’t have been possible without cooperation from Mother Nature, she definitely did her part and now we can only hope she delivers a summer of equal epic-ness.

Volunteer Snowmobiler SignAll too often the most important contributor to generating great snowmobiling is overlooked; in fact, these contributors are the foundation of our sport. Some of these individuals were the beginning founders of modern day recreational snowmobile clubs and many are still involved today. These volunteers form Ontario's local community snowmobile clubs and linked together they form a vast network that produces over 30,000km of interconnected winter highways that are brought to life by dedicated volunteers.

Many of us would think that now that the snow is gone that work is complete however this is far from the truth. Local volunteers are already planning for next season; Clubs are holding landowner banquets and fundraisers. Volunteers are completing applications for infrastructure improvements which will result in a better ride next year. Groomer Supervisors are performing maintenance and servicing the grooming equipment to insure everything is ready to go when the snow flies in the fall. If you have some spare time this summer or are just looking to meet a few new like-minded friends, consider contacting a local club through social media to find out how you can help out – the complete list is here: https://www.northernontario.travel/snowmobiling/snowmobile-clubs-on-facebook

This is the best time of year to become involved in your local club and there is no better way to meet the behind the scenes crew than to attend a summertime snowmobile club event, so without further ado here is the Ontario List of Snowmobile Club Events that of course will lead up to the 2016 Toronto International Snowmobile, ATV and Powersports show on October 21, 22 and 23. (If your club has a ‘off-season’ event that you are organizing please let us know! Message us on Facebook or email us at info@ontariorides.ca.
