'Pulling for Peace' in the International Tug of War

There is tons of amazing events in Sunset Country but there is one much different than the rest. Canada and the United States have the longest undefended shared border in the world and each year two little towns put this border to an ultimate challenge in the International Tug of War event. So head to either side of the border on July 2, 2013 and help 'Pull for Peace'.

Pulling for Peace Tug of War

The International Tug of War is held in Fort Frances, Ontario on the Canada side and International Falls, Minnesota on the opposite side of the border in the United States. This is a fun-filled event which celebrates the peace between the two countries for over 200 years and there is loads of Canadians and Americans having a blast "Pulling for Peace".

Pulling for Peace on the INternational Border

This remarkable Tug of War event stretches a 1200 foot rope across the Rainy River which divides the two cities. There is a Canadian team and an American team with up to 50 participates for each tugging side! Every year the event is held the on July 2, around the same time as Canada Day and Independence Day. Both countries start off this extraordinary event with each country's national anthems and a ceremony. The first challenge to start off the evening is the Celebrity Pull, where famous athletes and other celebrities come out and join in on the fun. Then the Community Pull is started from a team selected by the celebrity winners. After the Community Pull, the Power Pull event is held for the trophy and everyone is welcome to join in on the tug.

Once all the sweat, excitement and a winner is declared, there is a BBQ provided on each side of the border and live music! Also check out what many of the vendors located at the event have to offer. This is defiantly an extraordinary event to experience! So come out and join the fun, bring the family, cheer on a team or maybe even join in on the "Pulling for Peace" in the International Tug of War!
