Moose n’ Fiddle: A Camper’s Delight

Where do moose and mosquitoes eat for free? What is a Chautauqua? If you are a fan of the Moose n’ Fiddle, you might have asked yourselves these questions and a few more.

The concept of Chautauqua is to bring entertainment and culture to a whole community. Caliper Lake Provincial Park is a woodsy oasis and a perfect backdrop for “this cool little festival at the lake.” You may be interested to know that the first Chautauqua was in 1874 on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in the state of New York. Artists, speakers, politicians, comedians, storytellers, singers, and songwriters all found a place to gather.

In the spirit of the tent chautauquas, an itinerant manifestation of the Chautauqua movement, festivals bring people and entertainment together, mostly in the great outdoors. Just at a cursory glance, you can see that not much has changed. Fairs are paid to attend. There is a line-up and from start to finish people can be enlightened, engaged, and entertained. And, as with the Chautauquas of yesteryear, nature plays a central role.

The Moose n' Fiddle Music Festival happens under a canopy of tall pines and along the water’s edge. Here, at the summer’s end, you will find campers who walk the trails and make their way to the festival site to enjoy a curated event.

For holidaymakers everywhere, rural and remote Northwestern Ontario has been a beacon for campers, cottagers, and RV’ers. With the Moose n’ Fiddle Music Festival, you can find the moment you seek, whatever that might be.

The Moose n’ Fiddle is an arty and accessible event, tailor-made for people from all walks of life and of all ages. If you come by land or by water, we invite you to enjoy a little Folk and a little Country, while having a whole lot of fiddlin’ fun!

Accommodations: Caliper Lake Provincial Park and Sioux Narrows Provincial Park both have great campgrounds to camp at. There are also many lodges and resorts in Sioux Narrows and Nestor Falls to stay at.

Besides the great musical talent, there is also an Artisan Village with goods such as jewelry, homemade lotion, soaps, and canned goods, pottery, art, and more. There is also the Moose Fun Factory, a family-friendly zone with games, crafts, minnow races, and much more.

Tickets are sold online, in person at the Northern Ontario Sportfishing Centre in Sioux Narrows, the Travel Centre in Nestor Falls, Caliper Lake Provincial Park gatehouse, the Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls municipal offices or with cash at the door.
