Walleye Wonderland

Like nowhere else

It's hard not to brag about Sunset Country's walleye fisheries!

There are a lot of places that claim to have the best walleye fishing in the world but can they really back it up? If you dig a little deeper into their claims like we have, you'll find the answer to that is an unequivocal "no"! In Sunset Country, when we say we have the best walleye fishing well, not only do we talk the talk, we walk the walk! Still don't believe us, well here's some evidence to prove our claim to walleye fame.

Let's start this with a discussion about lakes ––Sunset Country has 70,000 of them ––we know a State close by that claims to have good walleye fishing brags about having 10,000 lakes––any questions so far? In fact, there is a Provincial Park in Sunset Country that is about the size of Connecticut and it alone has 12,000 lakes within its boundaries! Let's drop a few names here––can you say Lac Seul? Lake St. Joseph? Red Lake?

Sunset Country also has the winning combination of quantity and more importantly, quality walleye fishing. There are lakes where 100 fish in a day is a pretty typical experience––most fly-in lakes up here are like that. But we also have some big lakes that hold super big fish, over 30 inches long and approaching 15 pounds. Off hand, we point to Lake of the Woods, Rainy Lake, Hawk Lake and Eagle Lake as the home to these uber walleye, but many other smaller lakes also harbor these lunker walleye.

For our next topic let's focus where you can stay while walleye fishing in Ontario. Again, from a quality and quantity perspective, Sunset Country comes out on top again. We have American Plan resorts, housekeeping cabins, remote fly-in outposts, campgrounds, houseboats and more. You can even access remote lakes by taking an Ontario canoe trip!

When your talking about walleye fishing in Sunset Country, it's hard to be humble and we admit, we're not really trying that hard anyway! The good thing is we can back up these claims and so can the tens of thousands of American and Canadian anglers who visit us each year. Like they say "the proof is in the pudding". Well, pudding anyone?
