Grabbing Lunch at Thunder Bay's Hodder Greeks

One of the unique features in Thunder Bay are the little community corner stores. We need them. The winter weather harbours us in like land-locked boats, so journeying outside becomes a big trip, especially for kids. For them, a trip to the respite stop for a hot dog or a chocolate bar becomes a real thrill. There are fewer corner stores around today, but those left are dear to many hearts. Memories abound and the flavours are exactly as you remember.

There are three Hodder Greeks jaunts in town with two separate owners, but they share that love of the corner joint. Burgers, hot dogs, coney dogs, sausages, fries, and poutine are the staple foods. The burgers are sliders-sized treats, as evidenced by their inexpensive price, so you might need two if you’re extra hungry. But before you order a second burger, consider the mega-size amount of fries you get. Arteries are still an important part of your body. Leave that little extra room for ice cream or candy.  

On the South side of the city, you can find the Hodder Greeks location on Highway 61 (1725 Hwy 61) where you can stop and take a seat. The other two Hodders are for pick-up only, although in the summer there’ll be at least a couple picnic tables outside. Grab some grub for your trip to beautiful Boulevard Lake at the Hodder Greeks on Hodder Avenue (445 Hodder Ave.). Or if you’re watching some baseball at Balsam Pit Park, there’s the Hodder Greeks on High St. (106 High St. North).
