Nordic Skiing in Thunder Bay

Hundreds of kilometres of trails can be found within city limits and the surrounding area.

Visit Thunder Bay in the winter months and you will have an opportunity to explore and ski over 120 kilometres of groomed trails in the scenic wilderness of Lake Superior’s northern shore region.

Whether you are looking for a family outing with the comforts of a chalet or the challenge of a backcountry trek in a wilderness setting, Thunder Bay and Northwest Ontario has much to offer skiers of all abilities.

Thunder Bay Nordic Trails

Thunder Bay Nordic Trails maintains 100 kilometres of trails and offers daily passes to two provincial parks within a short drive of the city including Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park. The Kamview Nordic Centre is home base for Thunder Bay Nordic Trails and offers a venue closer to city limits. There is also night skiing at Kamview. Book your trail pass today.

The Rolling Hills of Lappe

The Lappe Nordic Centre is located in the rolling hills of Lappe, a small community about 20 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay up Dog Lake Road. The Lappe Nordic Centre has 12 kilometres of groomed trail with 4.6 kilometre of trail lighted for night skiing. The centre also features a chalet with change rooms and sauna facilities. The centre offers single, three-day and five-day passes.

Ski Centennial Park

The City of Thunder Bay also has over 10 kilometres of groomed trail within city limits at Centennial Park. Ski the scenic recreation trail that follows the Current River through the park. And the price is right, FREE.

Cross Country Ski Events

Hundreds of skiers lineup for the start of the Sleeping Giant Loppet. The annual event held the first weekend in March attracts skiers from across the region including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Manitoba and Northern Ontario.
