When Jack Frost’s nipping at your nose, there are some fantastic ways to keep warm and toasty this winter in Sault Ste. Marie:
Get cozy at Shabby Motley Handcraft
This unique half craft store, half café venue joins together coffee, knitting, delicious lunch options and treats baked with love. The “pro-loitering” environment encourages you to hang out, grab a cup of fair trade organic coffee or tea, and get comfy in this inviting downtown café.
Warmth, wine, music and perhaps a little charcuterie are on the menu at Konoba, a newly opened downtown Mediterranean Café/Bar. This nightlife ‘hotspot’ offers a menu of classic Mediterranean-style share plates and unique selection of wine, local draft and import beer.
Take a step back in time with a traditional horse drawn sleigh ride at Mockingbird Hill Farm. Cuddle up with friends and family on a group ride, or canoodling with your special someone on a romantic ride for two. The sleigh ride will whisk you away across scenic trails, forested hills and an enchanting Christmas tree meadow.
What better way to keep warm than a relaxing steam at the luxurious LIFEforia Wellness Club and Retreat? This is the only venue in town where visitors can find a Laconium (Roman Sauna) and Steam Room. While there, you can also indulge in holiday-inspired adult beverages!

Celebrate the season at Bon Soo
Beginning the first full week every February, Bon Soo is Northern Ontario’s largest winter carnival. Now held at the Machine Shop in the historic Canal District of Sault Ste. Marie, there’s something for everyone — music, dog pull contest, sno-spike volleyball, pancake breakfasts, bonspiels, Bon Tots for kids, Bum Slides, and of course, the famous (and chilly) Polar Bear Swim.
This hub of local food, crafts and artisan vendors has something for just about everyone. Winter visitors can find quality alpaca products, Mennonite furniture, local meat, seasonal produce, cosmetics, candles and more. The Mill Market reopens for winter hours (Saturdays from 10am-3pm) on January 21, 2017.
Cross-country adventures come to life at Stokely Creek Lodge, located in the Algoma Highlands. Home to world-class Nordic trails, cross-country skiers and snowshoers can enjoy carefully designed trails winding through breathtaking vistas.
