Second Annual Manitoulin Ice Showdown

Bob Izumi hosts this exciting ice fishing event

Fishing is best in Northeastern Ontario, and the Annual Manitoulin Ice Showdown is one of the best ice fishing derbies out there. Find yourself on the gorgeous Manitoulin Island dropping lines into some of the best fishing lakes Canada has to offer. Following a successful event last year, they’ve added to the excitement for 2020. On February 22 and 23, anglers will once again take their chance at landing that winning catch to take home the big prize.

Ice fishing is such a fun winter activity—spend a day with friends and family out in your shelter, line in one hand and a hot drink in the other, enjoying the peace of being out in the middle of a lake. When you add in the competition, you feel your adrenaline build with every little pull on the line.

To make this year’s Showdown even better, Wikwemikong Tourism and the Fishing Manitoulin Destination Filming Partnership brought in the big rods, so to speak. We’re lucky enough to be fishing alongside our guest-host Bob Izumi with his Real Fishing Show and Fuel the Fire TV filming the event! Anglers know Bob Izumi—40 years of turning casual fishermen into avid anglers, giving seminars, promoting his love and knowledge of fishing in magazines, on TV, even on radio. Bob is a fishing champion and legend. Anyone who knows him will tell you of his true Canadian spirit and love for the sport.

Not only will Bob be attending and hosting the event, but we now have a chance to fish on two lakes: Lake Manitou and Manitowaning Bay. They have expanded the fishing area, so you have a greater opportunity to find your special spot. The best part, other than an excuse to fish on Manitoulin Island, is that there is over $50,000 in cash and prizes to be won!

From the one-day Wiikwemkong Ice Fishing Derby to the two-day showdown it has become, this competition is only going to keep getting better.

Get registered, grab your hut, your reels and your auger, and we will see you all in February!
