The winter is a great time to spend exploring Sudbury’s unexpected outdoor adventures. With 330 lakes there are lots of ways to get out and about, and enjoy the season.
Make tracks
Put on your winter boots, strap on some snowshoes, or hook into your skis and make your way through a shimmering winter landscape. Sudbury’s Lake Laurentian Conservation Area offers 55km/34mi. of hiking and cross-country ski trails. Ski and snowshoe rental are available from the Laurentian University Outdoor Centre.
Step into your skis or strap on your board and enjoy Greater Sudbury’s ski hills for some downhill excitement. Choose from Adanac, Capreol and Lively. www.greatersudbury.ca/ski
Open air skate
When the lakes turn icy blue and the white stuff piles up, visitors can bring their skates and lace up for an open air skate on the Ramsey Lake Skating Path, a favourite family activity or enjoy, quiet evening under the lights skating on the oval at Queen’s Athletic Field or skate through the forest on Nina's Way at Kivi Park.
Hit the ice
Ice Fishing is a time honoured practice in Northern Ontario, and with 330 lakes in Greater Sudbury the options to find a great fishing hole are endless. Rocky’s on the Lake even offers heated portable ice huts for the ice fishing enthusiast!
Get cozy in a yurt
