Feeling the need to get away?

Tired of all the hustle and bustle?

Consider a vacation to the remote Canadian wilderness.

Go remote and You won't regret it

The remote Canadian wilderness is just the place to let you unwind from the daily stresses of life. Imagine a place where there are more lakes than people. That’s a reality in Ontario’s Sunset Country.

If you're ready to get away from it all for a while, try booking a vacation in Northwest Ontario. Whichever lodge you choose there will be one thing in common: it will be situated on a beautiful, clear, Canadian lake.

Here in Sunset Country, most of our lodges and camps are separated into three categories: Drive-in, boat-in, or fly-in.

What’s the difference, you ask? It’s mostly a personal preference. If you’re coming up for a fishing trip and want to bring your own boat, you’ll probably choose a drive-in or boat-in lodge. If you don’t want to run into anyone else on your trip, you might consider a fly-in outpost.

Drive-in Lodges and Resorts

Drive-in lodges are convenient in that they are generally the easiest the get to. If you’re like me and like to pack a lot, this type of lodge might be the best. If you are looking for other things to do on your vacation besides fishing or heading out on the lake, there are many drive-in lodges that are close to communities where you can take part in an event, go shopping or see some of the attractions.

Don't think the drive-in lodges are all in urban areas. They are still in the beautiful Canadian wilderness, just a little easier to get to. Photo: Pickerel Arm Camp

Fly-in Outpost Camps

There’s no place in Canada that has as many small remote lakes with a cabin for rent on them as in Sunset Country. If you’ve ever ordered our Travel Guide with our famous outfitter map, you’ll know what I am talking about. There are thousands of lakes. You can fly into many of the lakes that have an outpost cabin on them. It’s literally you, your friends or family, and the fish for a week! The feeling you get after the float plane has dropped you off and you just sit and listen to the peacefulness is overwhelming. A loon may call off in the distance, but otherwise, it’s total silence! You can really unwind at an outpost camp. That is until you head out fishing and start screaming that you caught one, and your buddy yells out "Me too!" Be prepared for double or even triple-headers on these remote lakes.

If you want the remoteness of an outpost camp but you want a little more pampering, try an American Plan fly-in lodge. Imagine flying into the middle of nowhere and having hot coffee delivered to your door each morning, being fed delicious home-cooked meals, and being pampered your whole trip. Choose this option if you really want to relax and not have to worry about cooking each day.

Boat-in Lodges

If you want the remoteness but are not into flying, try an island resort. We have both housekeeping plan resorts and American Plan resorts that are accessed by boat. If you aren’t bringing your own boat, don’t worry the outfitter will pick you up at their landing and take you on the scenic boat ride to camp. There are also a few boat-in outposts cabins if you're looking for one cabin with no neighbors without the floatplane ride.

If you're looking for something other than a lodge, try renting a houseboat, going on a canoe expedition, or going camping. There are also many resorts that are open year-round if you need to get away in the winter. Try ice fishing, snowmobiling, or skiing.

Try our new Accommodation finder! Whichever lodging type you choose, you are sure to have a relaxing, yet fun vacation.

Make it happen  you deserve some time away, don’t you?
