Boating Events in Ontario 2022: A Complete Guide to Summer Fun

From poker runs to free concerts, Ontario boating events are back in a big way this summer! Here's everything to add to your calendar.

Ontario is a boater's dream come true. With hundreds of thousands of lakes and rivers, getting out on the water to enjoy the sun and scenery is the best part of Ontario summers. And now that events are back in 2022, this year promises even more fun for Ontario boaters!

Here's a comprehensive list of all 2022 Ontario boating events for the summer season.

June 10-12 2022
Spring Boat, Cottage and Green Technology Show
Orillia, ON

Newly named this year, this annual event held at the Port of Orillia will for the first time feature everything related to green technology and outdoor summer adventure gear. This event is an established trade show for the boating industry and private sector. It is also one of the few shows offering private owners an opportunity to sell their boat. The show also features a variety of marine, cottage and outdoor summer adventure products, land vendors and marine safety demonstrations. Chesterville Kayak Club Poker Run
Chesterville, ON

This will be the first Chesterville Kayak Club Poker Run in two years due to Covid-19. All are welcome to participate in the leisurely 10km paddle on South Nation River, from Cass Bridge Conservation Area to the boat launch in Chesterville. Cards can be found along the way to improve your poker hand. Lunch is provided at the Chesterville Nelson Laprade Centre. Additionally, the Top 5 poker hands will win cash prizes, and there are door prizes. For registration info, click here.

Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival
Peterborough, ON

Catch the dragon excitement as a free spectator, or take part in the races this June at McRary Park. This Dragon Boat Festival is a fundraiser for breast cancer diagnosis, screening and treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. You will also find food vendors, a children’s fun zone, and a beer garden. Click here to register to paddle at this Peterborough boating event.

Performance Boat Club Muskoka Lakes Charity Poker Run
Gravenhurst, ON

The Muskoka Lakes Poker Run kicks off this year's poker run season. A group rate has been arranged at the Marriot Gravenhurst Muskoka Wharf. June 24-26 2022
Brockville Tall Ships Festival
Brockville, ON

This waterfront festival is part of the Tall Ships Challenge - Great Lakes Series. Come out to celebrate tall ships, including Brockville’s own “Fair Jeanne,” as well as boats of all kinds while they line the harbour. You’ll find entertainment, food, and vendors with a $10 wristband, and you can purchase a festival passport to tour the decks of each ship on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss the Parade of Sail on Friday afternoon as the festival begins.

June 24-26 2022
Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival
Ottawa, ON

Held at Mooney’s Bay Park and Beach, this festival is North America's largest dragon boating event. The 29th annual ODBF allows boaters of all skill levels a chance to compete in races. Spectators have free admission to the event’s multiple stages with concerts, amusement attractions, artisans, food, beach side bar, children's area and non-stop racing. On Saturday, teams compete in 500m races in various Challenge Cup divisions. On Sunday, top teams advance to the 100m race, 200m race and 500m finals. Gananoque Poker Run
Gananoque, ON

Poker Runs America and Power Boating Canada host this year’s Gananoque Poker Run. Bring your boats and watch other performance vessels showcase their power. Registration is scheduled for Friday, while Saturday is time for the poker run. Zoom through the Gananoque waterways to Prescott. Register in advance by clicking here and tapping the “Register Now!” button.

July 9 2022
Performance Boat Club Georgian Bay Charity Poker Run
Midland, ON

While we don't have a ton of info for this event so far, the date is set for this Georgian Bay event in Midland, Ontario. You can buy your tickets for $575, including the driver and navigator, and $150 for additional crew members. More details to come.

July 22-24 2022
Muskoka Boat & Cottage Show
Gravenhurst, ON

Free fun for the whole family at the Muskoka Wharf. This show occurs alongside the Muskoka Rib Fest. More than 100 boats and cottage exhibits, live entertainment and lots of prizes and giveaways. With free admission, lots of vendors, food purveyors, and live entertainment all weekend, you’ll be sure to have a blast.

July 23 2022
Larry Berrio’s Free Concert at Lake Wanapetei
North shore of Lake Wanapitae, north of Sudbury, ON

At “Berrio on the Banks”, hosted by Larry Berrio, all the water is a stage. One of the largest concerts held on water in Canada, and only accessible by boat, this will be the sixth annual “Berrio on the Sandbanks” event. This time, Sudbury musician Berrio plays with special guest Mike Trudell. Access is free. Click here to learn more.

August 4-14 2022
Upper Ottawa River Race & Paddle Festival
Pembroke, ON

This 10-day festival, in partnership with the Water and Dirt Festival, features flat water, white-water races, kayaking, fishing and more. Saturday, August 6 is the big race day, with 13km, 4km, and kids races by canoe, outrigger, prone, and stand up paddling (SUP). You’ll find a variety of other activities during this event, such as clinics, demos, vendors, food and live performances from local entertainment. Click here for more details and registration info.

August 5-7 2022
1000 Islands Poker Run
Kingston, ON 

Experience the thrill of riding in an extreme performance boat at this ride of a lifetime event. More than 60 of these vessels will be docked in the Confederation Basin Marina on Saturday and Sunday – and so could yours. Check out these watercraft at all the card stops, or from your own boat. A downtown street party and other exhibits are sure to entertain to top off your weekend.
